Description & Product Details
This piece of art showcases a piece of a Japanese silk Obi – the belt of the traditional Japanese Kimono dress – in a custom-built glass frame. Due to its rich and intricate metal-coated yarn embroidery, this type of Obi is exclusively used for ceremonial wear and celebration. It is a one of a kind piece from Tokyo, framed by Michèle Bernard, a passionate craftswoman who has been building frames as decorative art and as a science of preservation in her Paris-based atelier for over 40 years. For this piece, she custom-made a double-sided glass frame from anti-glare and UV protective glass to valorise and bring out the obi’s silk shine and vibrant colours. The frame can be hung both vertically and horizontally.
